This temple was established by Toshiie, the 1st Lord of Maeda. The 1st priest was Daito Keijo who Toshiie trusted during the time of his ruling Fuchu, Echizen (current Echizen City in Fukui Prefecture). Since it was Maeda’s Buddhist family temple, many of his family members are enshrined here. The graveyard houses a self-portrait of Toshiie and some of his hair in Mieido, as well as the grave of Tawaraya Sotatsu, a great artist at the beginning of the Edo Period.
