Jodo-shu (The Pure Land School) Anrakuji Temple

This temple was established in 1602 (Keicho 7) by a monk, Ryukutosetsu invited by Wakita Hyobu Shigesue in Echizen (now Fukui Prefecture). A memorial tablet of Wakita Inosuke, a page to the 3rd Lord Maeda, and the Wakita’s family is enshrined here. Wakita Naokata served from the 2nd to 5th generation of Lord Maeda. Nakano Shigeharu, a novelist, took up lodgings at this temple, writing about those days in his work, ‘Uta-no-wakare’.
