Sarumaru Jinja Shrine

This is the one of the oldest shrines in Kanazawa, and since 1843 (Tenpo 14) it has been equipped with a pair of stone lanterns on the approach to the shrine. They were made to commemorate the famous writer Sarumaru Dayu’s visit here. He wrote a poem in Ogura Hyakunin Issyu (100 poems written by 100 poets). A statue of the Eleven-faced Kannon is enshrined in the main sanctuary. A Kannon religious gathering is held every August.
