In 1236 (Katei 2), Hirota Inabanokami Shigenaga, a feudal lord of Samegai in Omi (now Shiga Prefecture) became a priest called Kyosai by establishing this temple. Later in 1471 (Bunmei 3), when the 7th Zenchi priest accompanied Rennyo of Honganji Temple for missionary work in Hokkoku, the temple was moved to Kanazawa.
